Devil Lake lies within the bounds of Anoka County, Minnesota. It sits at 889 feet above sea level. It measures about 66 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Roughly 1.2 miles of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Ground here is low by Minnesota standards. Nearest town is East Bethel, 1.9 miles off. Ham Lake follows at 7.1 miles, then Oak Grove at 7.5 miles. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Anoka County records list bluegill, common carp, black crappie, largemouth bass and pumpkinseed among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The shape of Devil Lake decides where the fish sit.
Expect July near 71°F and January near 11°F on the long-run figures. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early April. On average, early April opens the water and late November closes it again. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Devil Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Goose Lake is 1 mile distant. Treat access at Devil Lake as something to verify.
