Deepwater Lake in Saint Louis County: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Deepwater Lake is one of the Saint Louis County listings for Minnesota. The water sits 1,414 feet up. It covers about 20 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Saint Louis County list. Supplies mean a trip to Chisholm, 9.5 miles off. Further out sit Mountain Iron (11 miles) and Parkville (13 miles). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.

• Where to Fish on Deepwater Lake

  Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Saint Louis County records list yellow perch, northern pike, white sucker and rainbow trout among the fish reported.
