Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a mirror surface most of the day and a falling glass. The fish at Deep Lake are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Hubbard County entry here is Deep Lake, in Minnesota. Beyond the shoreline you have mixed forest. Around 43 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. Start from Park Rapids, 15 miles down the road. It is 87 miles to Fargo, the nearest city. If this one is busy: Birch Lake near enough 1.6 miles, Schoolcraft Lake after 2.1 miles, Sawyer Lake near enough 2.2 miles, Whiting Lake after 2.3 miles and Long Lake near enough 2.3 miles. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Hubbard County include walleye, northern pike, black crappie, bluegill and largemouth bass. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Deep Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 67°F, with January the cold end at about 4°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid April. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Deep Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Toilets show in mapping about half a mile away. A nature reserve borders this water, which usually brings restrictions. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Birch Lake, 1.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Deep Lake.
