A closed sky with even light today, with a gentle ripple from the SE as pressure builds. Activity on Cranberry Lake should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Aitkin County, Minnesota, this is Cranberry Lake. The water sits 1,243 feet up. With some 26 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The nearest town is Aitkin, 9.9 miles away. Crosby is 10 miles away, with Vineland at 16 miles. Near neighbours: Laurel Lake out at 0.5 miles, Horseshoe Lake (0.6 miles), Spruce Lake out at 0.7 miles, Camp Lake (1 mile) and Little Spruce Lake out at 1.2 miles. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
We hold no depth figure for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name northern pike, bluegill and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The near bank of Cranberry Lake is often the one people ignore.
July runs about 69°F on average, January about 7°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. After mid April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near late November in autumn. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Cranberry Lake more years than not.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Laurel Lake, 0.5 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Cranberry Lake in what we hold.
