A mixed sky through the night, with an easy breeze from the WNW with a firming glass. Most of the action on Bull Lake should come off shallow cover and weed edges. The day peaks in the evening. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Bull Lake in Cook County, Minnesota. The bank is 1,808 feet above sea level. It runs to roughly 56 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 1.7 miles in total. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Minnesota listings. Grand Marais sits 18 miles from the bank. The big place round here is Thunder Bay, 70 miles distant. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Cook County include white sucker, yellow perch and northern pike. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The shape of Bull Lake decides where the fish sit.
Between January at about 5°F and July at about 63°F, the water has a wide range to work through. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Plan around that when you fish Bull Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public toilets are recorded roughly half a mile off. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Cow Lake at 0.6 miles is the sensible second choice. Rules at Bull Lake are worth checking on the day.
