Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with light air out of the WNW as pressure builds. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Brule Lake. The evening carries the best of the day. Change depth before you change anything else. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

This water sits in Cook County, Minnesota. Everything around it is mixed forest. At 6.6 sq miles you are fishing a fraction of it whatever you do. The perimeter is close to 39 miles, and wind can be flat in one arm and rough in the next. It is the biggest water on our Cook County list. The closest town, Grand Marais, is 21 miles away. Then Silver Bay, 52 miles, and Ely, 55 miles. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Cook County: white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike and rainbow trout. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The shape of Brule Lake decides where the fish sit.
On the long-term average, July reads 63°F and January reads 5°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Brule Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Access is not recorded for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Toilets show in mapping about half a mile away. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, South Cone Lake at 1.4 miles is the nearest alternative. For Brule Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
