Dull, settled light over the water, with a faint ESE drift and pressure ticking upward. Give bays that hold the day's warmth the first hour at Browns Lake. The strongest window runs from afternoon into evening. Keep expectations modest and fish carefully. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Browns Lake lies in Meeker County, in Minnesota. Beyond the shoreline you have pine and birch. At 306 acres this is proper open water rather than a pond. There is roughly 2.7 miles of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. On our Meeker County list it sits near the top for size. Eden Valley lies 4.2 miles from the water. The big place round here is Minneapolis, 68 miles distant. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
The charted maximum sits at about 40 feet. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Meeker County include largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, common carp and bluegill. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Fish Browns Lake to its features, not to its size.
Seasonal averages run from 10°F in January up to 72°F in July. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Once it clears, about early April, the fishing comes on quickly. Expect the water usable from around early April until roughly late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. The season on Browns Lake rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Long Lake, 0.4 miles out. For Browns Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
