Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a whisper of wind from the WNW with pressure climbing. The fish at Boise Lake are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. The best of it runs morning through afternoon. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Boise Lake is set in Brown County, Minnesota. It sits at 1,014 feet above sea level. The water covers some 152 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 1.8 miles of margin, front to back. Springfield is the closest place, 4.7 miles off. Sleepy Eye lies 8.4 miles off, Fairfax another 21 miles. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Brown County include walleye, common carp and largemouth bass. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Take Boise Lake a stretch at a time.
Long-term averages put July at about 72°F and January near 12°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early April. Average temperatures cross freezing around early April in spring and again near late November in autumn. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. At Boise Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The water borders Boise Lake Wildlife Management Area, so reserve rules are likely to apply. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Altermatt Lake, 4.3 miles away. Check the position at Boise Lake before loading the car.
