A still, cloudless night on the water, with light air out of the S with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Round Lake should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Expect the better fishing from the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Grand Traverse County in Michigan is where Round Lake sits. Land around it is mixed forest. It covers about 17 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. 11 miles away sits Traverse City, the nearest town. Green Bay sits 109 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Grand Traverse County, recorded fish include rock bass, yellow perch, white sucker, smallmouth bass and bluegill. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Round Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Expect July near 68°F and January near 20°F on the long-run figures. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Break-up comes around mid April, and the run that follows is short and strong. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near mid December. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It sets the rhythm of the year at Round Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. The mapped parking is Lost Lake Trailhead, half a mile away. A camping area sits within half a mile of here. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Cedar Hedge Lake, 1 mile away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Round Lake.
