A grey, even sky over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SW and pressure ticking upward. The fish at Potter Lake are likely to sit near points where shallow meets deep. Block out the hours from night into morning. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Potter Lake lies in Clinton County, in Michigan. The bank is 823 feet above sea level. At 18 acres it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. With about 1.1 miles of edge, you can try several depths in one session. For a base, Bath sits 2.5 miles out. Haslett is 3.2 miles and Okemos 4.9 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Clinton County cover bluegill, pink salmon, yellow perch, black crappie and largemouth bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Read Potter Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Climate records put July near 70°F and January near 21°F. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early April. The open-water window runs from around early April to about mid December in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Potter Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Parking within half a mile means no long carry with tackle. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Mud Lake is 0.4 miles distant. For Potter Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
