Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a helpful ripple pushed from the NW and the barometer heading up. Fish at Lost Lake should hold close to reed fringes and open pockets. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Schoolcraft County, Michigan, this is Lost Lake. The bank gives way to pine and birch. This is a pocket water of some 12 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. For supplies, Newberry is 16 miles out. Munising is 40 miles away, with Manistique at 41 miles. No border sits close enough to matter. The far side sees far fewer people than the near one.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Schoolcraft County include rainbow smelt, alewife, bloater and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Take Lost Lake a stretch at a time.
Seasonal averages run from 16°F in January up to 64°F in July. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly early December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Lost Lake rarely departs from it.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Fur Farm Lake at 0.3 miles is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lost Lake in what we hold.
