A grey, even sky over the water, with a stiffish breeze from the SW and pressure on the rise. The water to cover at Lime Lake is any hard bottom among the soft. Block out the hours from night into morning. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lime Lake belongs to Hillsdale County, Michigan. The country round it is lake country bush from end to end. At roughly 7 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is a small entry by Hillsdale County standards. Reading is the closest town at 2.8 miles. Quincy follows at 8.6 miles, then Fremont at 9.9 miles. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Public occurrence data for Hillsdale County names bluegill, largemouth bass, yellow perch, black crappie and warmouth. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Fish Lime Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Long-term averages put July at about 71°F and January near 22°F. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter locks it down, and late March brings it back. The lid tends to go about late March and return around mid December. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Plan around that when you fish Lime Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Beckwith Lake, 0.4 miles away. Check the position on Lime Lake before loading the car.
