Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with stillness over the whole water and the barometer on the way down. The water to cover at Lake Four is points where shallow meets deep. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lake Four lies within the bounds of Otsego County, Michigan. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. This is a pocket water of some 9 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Gaylord sits 2.4 miles from the bank. Beyond it, Boyne City at 19 miles and Mancelona at 19 miles. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Otsego County names rock bass, white sucker, largemouth bass and northern pike. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Lake Four the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Climate records put July near 67°F and January near 17°F. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly early December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Expect Lake Four to follow that timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lake Five at 0.2 miles is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lake Four carry more weight than any list.
