Dull, settled light over the water, with a firm NNW blow with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lake Doster should come off the seam between weed and open water. Bank on the evening and treat the rest as bonus. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for Lake Doster in the Barry County part of Michigan. The ground round it is pine and birch. At about 3.5 miles of edge, most people work one arm at a time. On our Barry County list it sits near the top for size. The nearest place of any size is Plainwell, 5 miles away. Grand Rapids sits 36 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Barry County records list bluegill, largemouth bass and yellow perch among the fish reported. The county list is broader than any single water. Anyone new to Lake Doster should walk it once before setting up.
Expect July near 71°F and January near 23°F on the long-run figures. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Winter locks it down, and late March brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late March, and forms again about mid December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lake Doster.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Expect a half a mile walk in from where the car goes. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Silver Lake at 0.9 miles is the nearest alternative. Where Lake Doster is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
