An even grey lid over the water, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW as pressure slides. Give structure within a cast of the bank the first hour at Lake Ann. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lake Ann is set in Menominee County, Michigan. Around the bank it is rolling bush. This is a pocket water of some 23 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is low-lying compared with other Michigan water we list. Start from Norway, 24 miles down the road. The big place round here is Green Bay, 66 miles distant. No border sits close enough to matter.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Across Menominee County, recorded fish include white sucker, johnny darter and brown trout. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lake Ann that means starting tight and working out.
Averages move between 14°F in January and 68°F in July. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. Climate figures give an open season running mid April to early December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Lake Ann fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. There is a ramp at Lake Ann Boat Launch, half a mile out. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lake Mary is 0.4 miles distant. Check the position on Lake Ann before loading the car.
