Flat light and a covered sky today, with enough WNW wind to stack food downwind with the glass on the way up. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at High Life Lake. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

High Life Lake sits within Baraga County in Michigan. It stands 1,768 feet above sea level. With some 41 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 1.3 miles on foot. Compared with other Michigan water on our list, it sits high. L'Anse lies 15 miles from the water. Baraga lies 17 miles off, West Ishpeming another 26 miles. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Public occurrence data for Baraga County names yellow perch, pink salmon, white sucker and walleye. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. High Life Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Climate normals give 63°F for July and 10°F for January. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Anyone fishing High Life Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Jims Lake, 0.4 miles out. Nothing on High Life Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
