No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a faint WSW drift and pressure ticking upward. The water to cover at Hawk Lake is the shaded margin through bright spells. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Hawk Lake lies in Oakland County, Michigan. Country round the bank runs to rolling bush. The water measures roughly 14 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. Some 0.2 miles away sits Wolverine Lake, the nearest settlement. Walled Lake is 1.5 miles and Wixom 4.1 miles. Not far off: 0.9 miles away is Stuart Lake, Wolverine Lake some 1.1 miles off, 1.1 miles away is Carus Lake, Reed Lake some 1.2 miles off and 1.4 miles away is Woodbridge Lake. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Oakland County list bluegill, black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Hawk Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Temperature averages peak at 72°F in July and bottom out at 23°F in January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Break-up comes around late March, and the run that follows is short and strong. On average, late March opens the water and mid December closes it again. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. It sets the rhythm of the year at Hawk Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Canoe/Kayak Boat Launch provides a boat ramp about half a mile away. There is recorded parking some half a mile off. Fishing from a pier is possible 110 yards away. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Stuart Lake, 0.9 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Hawk Lake carry more weight than any list.
