Wet weather working through today, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW with the barometer flat. On Granite Lake, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. One clear peak today: the evening. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Marquette County, Michigan, is where Granite Lake sits. The bank is 1,555 feet above sea level. With some 37 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 1.2 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It is high ground by Michigan standards. Supplies mean a trip to West Ishpeming, 13 miles off. Further out sit Ishpeming (15 miles) and Negaunee (17 miles). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Public occurrence data for Marquette County names white sucker, yellow perch, rainbow smelt, smallmouth bass and northern pike. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. At Granite Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
July runs about 64°F on average, January about 11°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Granite Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Kirk Lake at 1.3 miles is the sensible second choice. Rules at Granite Lake are worth checking on the day.
