An even grey lid over the water, with a kind SW breeze on the water with pressure climbing. On Geneva Lake, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Oakland County in Michigan is where Geneva Lake sits. The surroundings are mixed forest. About 19 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Keego Harbor lies 2.7 miles from the water. Sterling Heights is the closest city, 17 miles away. Also on the doorstep: Fiddle Lake within 0.6 miles, Crescent Lake 1.1 miles off, Elizabeth Lake within 1.2 miles, Watkins Lake 1.4 miles off and Otter Lake within 1.4 miles. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Oakland County: bluegill, black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Geneva Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Expect July to average close to 71°F, with January the cold end at about 22°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late March. Open water usually runs from late March until about mid December. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That shapes the year on Geneva Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Launching is possible: a slipway lies 0.9 miles off. Parking is mapped about half a mile from the bank. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Fiddle Lake, 0.6 miles out. For Geneva Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
