Floyd Lake near Sand Lake: Fishing Spots, Seasons and Access

• Overview

  Set in Iosco County, Floyd Lake is a Michigan water. It stands 768 feet above sea level. Roughly 41 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Bank access stretches around 1.3 miles in total. Nearest place of any size is Sand Lake, 1.1 miles away. After that come Tawas City at 8.6 miles and East Tawas at 9.4 miles. • Where to Fish on Floyd Lake

  Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Iosco County, recorded fish include rock bass, bluegill, pink salmon, largemouth bass and northern pike. Records at this level tell you what is in the area.   Expect July to average close to 68°F, with January the cold end at about 19°F. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early April. The lid tends to go about early April and return around mid December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Floyd Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
