A mix of sun and cloud over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the NW with pressure climbing. Fish at Cucumber Lake should hold close to reed fringes and open pockets. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Cucumber Lake lies in Alger County, in Michigan. It lies 801 feet above sea level. About 8 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Alger County list. Nearest town is Munising, 12 miles off. Further out sit Manistique (25 miles) and Gladstone (35 miles). Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Public occurrence data for Alger County names yellow perch, rainbow smelt, northern pike and white sucker. The county list is broader than any single water. Anyone new to Cucumber Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Between January at about 15°F and July at about 65°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid April. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near early December. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Cucumber Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. There are toilets half a mile off. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Big Island Lake, 0.8 miles away. Rules at Cucumber Lake are worth checking on the day.
