Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a working WNW breeze and no real change in pressure. Give the seam between weed and open water the first hour at Coy Lake. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Coy Lake in Dickinson County, Michigan. The water sits 1,421 feet up. The water covers some 27 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Compared with other Michigan water on our list, it sits high. Crystal Falls lies 15 miles from the water. West Ishpeming lies 25 miles off, Ishpeming another 27 miles. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
We hold no depth figure for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Dickinson County include bluegill, walleye, yellow perch and brown trout. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Coy Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 65°F, with January the cold end at about 11°F. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. The season on Coy Lake rarely departs from it.
We hold no note on access for this one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Pickerel Lake, 0.4 miles out. Check the position on Coy Lake before loading the car.
