Temperature averages peak at 67°F in July and bottom out at 17°F in January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough mid April. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near early December. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Expect Clear Lake to follow that timing.

• Tackle & Baits

Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Bear Lake sits 0.4 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Clear Lake.
