A crisp, open sky after dark, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and the barometer heading up. The productive water at Chase Lake will be around inflow corners and shaded margins. The numbers single out the middle of the day. Keep moving until you find them. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Chase Lake sits in Oakland County, out in Michigan. The ground around here is mixed forest. Head to Holly, 4.7 miles away, for anything you forgot. After that come Fenton at 5.9 miles and Lake Fenton at 8.9 miles. Round about: Perch Lake at 0.9 miles, Buckhorn Lake a touch under 1.1 miles, Little School Lot Lake at 1.2 miles, Big School Lot Lake a touch under 1.3 miles and Esler Lake at 1.6 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Oakland County list bluegill, black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Work Chase Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Climate normals give 70°F for July and 22°F for January. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early April. Climate averages put the opening at about early April and the closing near mid December. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That is the shape of the year on Chase Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Perch Lake, 0.9 miles away. For Chase Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
