Bright, clear skies over the water today, with a kind NW breeze on the water and pressure sitting still. On Browns Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. No standout window; expect steady, modest action. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Night
Look for Browns Lake in Mackinac County, Michigan. The bank is 719 feet above sea level. Roughly 93 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. With about 1.7 miles of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Newberry lies 21 miles from the water. After that come Manistique at 25 miles and Munising at 47 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Fish documented in Mackinac County include white sucker, rainbow smelt, yellow perch and rock bass. The county list is broader than any single water. Read Browns Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Typical July readings run about 65°F; by January the average is down near 16°F. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Break-up comes around mid April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near early December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Browns Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. A campsite lies half a mile away for anyone staying over. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Mitten Lake at 0.9 miles is the nearest alternative. For Browns Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
