Clear air and long views across the water tonight, with almost no wind to speak of with pressure climbing. Most of the action on Upper Pond should come off any feature that breaks the open water. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Upper Pond lies within the bounds of Essex County, Massachusetts. This is mixed woodland country. Saugus sits 1.9 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Beyond it, Wakefield at 2.4 miles and Melrose at 2.5 miles. Nearest other option: Lower Pond about 0.2 miles, Spring Pond lies 1 mile on, Griswold Pond about 1.1 miles, Hawkes Pond lies 1.4 miles on and Walden Pond about 1.6 miles. A county boundary sits nearby, which can matter for local access rules.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Fish documented in Essex County include alewife, bluegill, striped bass and pumpkinseed. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Upper Pond that means starting tight and working out.
Temperature averages peak at 73°F in July and bottom out at 27°F in January. Fishing continues through most of the calendar, with quiet spells rather than closures. Hard water here is never dependable, so check for yourself before stepping out. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. Anyone fishing Upper Pond regularly works to that calendar.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. You can park half a mile away and walk in from there. A rest area sits about half a mile from the water. Toilets show in mapping about half a mile away. Breakheart Reservation runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lower Pond, 0.2 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Upper Pond.
