Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a mirror surface most of the day and pressure ticking upward. The productive water at Trout Brook will be around the tail-outs as light fades. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Worcester County end of Massachusetts holds Trout Brook. The setting is rolling bush. Devens is the closest place, 0.8 miles off. Lowell is the closest city, 17 miles away. What else is close: Phoenix Pond after 1 mile, 1.4 miles out stands Robbins Pond, Mirror Lake after 1.8 miles, 1.9 miles out stands Little Mirror Lake and Plow Shop Pond after 1.9 miles. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The outside of each bend cuts deepest and holds the better fish. Wading opens water that no bank angler reaches. Across Worcester County, recorded fish include bluegill, chain pickerel and largemouth bass. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Anyone new to Trout Brook should walk it once before setting up.
Expect July to average close to 71°F, with January the cold end at about 23°F. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Winter narrows this to the open runs; full flow returns around late March. Ice clears near late March and comes back about late December in a typical year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Trout Brook fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. A parking area is marked roughly half a mile out. There is a jetty half a mile off, worth knowing on a busy day. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Phoenix Pond sits 1 mile off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Trout Brook.
