Patchy cloud over the water after dark, with the water lying quiet and the barometer heading up. On North Reservoir, work the deep edge within casting range first. The forecast backs the stretch from afternoon into evening. Ride the conditions while they last. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for North Reservoir in the Middlesex County part of Massachusetts. Elevation runs to 151 feet. Around 59 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. The bank runs about 1.5 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Nearest town is Winchester, 1.4 miles off. Then Stoneham, 1.4 miles, and Woburn, 2.3 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Species logged across Middlesex County include bluegill, pumpkinseed and chain pickerel. The county list is broader than any single water. Fish North Reservoir to its features, not to its size.
Expect July near 72°F and January near 26°F on the long-run figures. Fishing continues through most of the calendar, with quiet spells rather than closures. Hard water here is never dependable, so check for yourself before stepping out. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. North Reservoir runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. A pier half a mile from here gives a platform over deeper water. Picnic facilities are recorded some half a mile out. This sits inside Dikes Pond, so read the reserve notices first. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Middle Reservoir, 0.6 miles away. Where North Reservoir is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
