Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with dead-still conditions and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Lower Pond will be around the shaded bank through the bright hours. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lower Pond is one of the Hampshire County listings for Massachusetts. It stands 187 feet above sea level. About 6 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Hampshire County list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest place of any size is South Hadley, 0.3 miles away. After that come Granby at 2.9 miles and Holyoke at 4.2 miles. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Reported across Hampshire County: brook trout, bluegill, pumpkinseed, tessellated darter and white sucker. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Lower Pond for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
July runs about 71°F on average, January about 23°F. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Winter locks it down, and late March brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late March, and forms again about late December. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Lower Pond follows the weather closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. There is somewhere to leave the car, 170 yards off. A pier half a mile from here gives a platform over deeper water. Toilets are half a mile away, which matters on a long session. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Upper Pond, 0.4 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Lower Pond is worth confirming on the day.
