A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a mirror surface most of the day with a firming glass. The water to cover at Longwater Pond is the warm end of the pond. The strongest window runs from morning through afternoon. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

This water sits in Bristol County, Massachusetts. The country here is farm and woodlot. At roughly 8 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Bristol County list. Start from Easton, 3.5 miles down the road. Stoughton is 3.9 miles and Brockton 4.1 miles. It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Across Bristol County, recorded fish include bluegill, tessellated darter, pumpkinseed, swamp darter and chain pickerel. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Treat Longwater Pond as a water to read rather than to cover.
Between January at about 27°F and July at about 72°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Fishing continues through most of the calendar, with quiet spells rather than closures. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. At Longwater Pond the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. There is a car park half a mile from the bank. A rest area sits about half a mile from the water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Shovelshop Pond at 0.2 miles is the nearest alternative. For Longwater Pond in particular, ask before you travel.
