A windy day on the water, with a proper ripple driven from the W and pressure on the rise. Most of the action on Harbor Head should come off the first drop-off and weed lines. Block out the hours from the day. Slow down and let the fish find the bait. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Harbor Head lies in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. The bank gives way to farm and woodlot. Small at around 14 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It lies lower than most water we list in Massachusetts. West Falmouth is the closest town at 0.6 miles. It is 15 miles to New Bedford, the nearest city. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is tidal water: the state of the tide decides where fish sit, so plan the session around it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Barnstable County, recorded fish include striped bass, alewife and tessellated darter. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The near bank of Harbor Head is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 71°F, with January the cold end at about 29°F. The year gives four workable seasons without severe ends. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. Time your trip to Harbor Head by conditions rather than dates.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Chapoquiot Beach offers parking about half a mile from the water. Public data records a pier about half a mile out. A toilet block sits half a mile away. The water borders Cr #35, so expect the reserve rules to apply. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Beach Pond is 0.2 miles off. What applies at Harbor Head may have changed since it was mapped.
