Solid cloud cover today, with a light SW breeze and pressure on the rise. Flax Pond should fish best around the closest cover to deeper water today. The day fishes best from morning through afternoon. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Flax Pond is one of the Barnstable County waters in Massachusetts. The shore lies 1.5 miles out. Surface area runs to about 10 acres — small enough to read in one session. Start from South Yarmouth, 1.1 miles down the road. Further out sit West Dennis (1.4 miles) and South Dennis (1.6 miles). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Work the tide here — moving water feeds, slack water rests. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name striped bass, alewife and tessellated darter. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Flax Pond fishes better once you know its edges.
July runs about 70°F on average, January about 30°F. Spring and autumn are the strongest, but nothing is truly closed. In milder years the edges alone go, and the middle never sets. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Flax Pond runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Parking within half a mile means no long carry with tackle. A protected area covers this ground, which usually means restrictions on access. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Lily Pond at 0.4 miles is the nearest alternative. What applies at Flax Pond may have changed since it was mapped.
