Open sky and sharp air tonight, with dead-still conditions with pressure climbing. Whatever swims in Echo Lake should be near the weed line and any gaps in it. The day fishes best from morning through afternoon. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Echo Lake is one of the Worcester County waters in Massachusetts. Elevation runs to 1,293 feet. Small enough that any disturbance crosses the whole surface. Most waters listed here for Worcester County are larger. Princeton sits 2.1 miles from the bank. It is 16 miles to Worcester, the nearest city. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name bluegill, chain pickerel and largemouth bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Fish Echo Lake to its features, not to its size.
Climate normals give 68°F for July and 21°F for January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early April. Ice clears near early April and comes back about mid December in a typical year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Anyone fishing Echo Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Parking within half a mile means no long carry with tackle. Mapping shows a picnic spot within 80 yards. Public toilets are recorded roughly half a mile off. Reserve land runs up to the bank here, so read the notices. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Bickford Pond sits 2.1 miles off and takes the overflow. For Echo Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
