Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with an easy breeze from the W with the glass slipping lower. The productive water at Lake Roland will be around the calm side of the wind. The evening is where the day comes good. Work the productive water thoroughly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for Lake Roland in the Baltimore County part of Maryland. It sits 8.2 miles in from the sea. Around 98 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. For supplies, North Roland Park/Poplar Hill is 0.8 miles out. Beyond it, Roland Park at 1.7 miles and Homeland at 1.7 miles. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Inflow corners move water, and moving water gathers fish. Species logged across Baltimore County include brown trout, bluegill, white sucker and brook trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lake Roland a short move beats a long cast.
Between January at about 32°F and July at about 77°F, the water has a wide range to work through. A lid forms in a hard winter only. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. At Lake Roland the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Parking is mapped about 130 yards from the bank. A marked angling spot sits within 70 yards. Toilets show in mapping about 110 yards away. This lies within protected land, so the rules will be stricter than usual. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Wash Water Lake at 4.2 miles is the nearest alternative. Check the position on Lake Roland before loading the car.
