A clear night sky over the water, with light air out of the W with a settled glass. Start the search at Lake Placid along structure within a cast of the bank. The forecast backs the stretch from night into morning. Ride the conditions while they last. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Montgomery County end of Maryland holds Lake Placid. Elevation runs to 351 feet. It covers about 11 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. North Potomac sits 2.5 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Beyond it, Gaithersburg at 2.9 miles and Darnestown at 2.9 miles. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Built water gives depth close in, which suits a bank angler. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. Across Montgomery County, recorded fish include bluegill, largemouth bass, fantail darter, tessellated darter and green sunfish. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Lake Placid the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The warmest month averages 77°F, the coldest about 32°F. Temperature moves within a narrow band, and so does the fishing. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. On Lake Placid the same rules apply, with local timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. There is a car park half a mile from the bank. A toilet block sits half a mile away. Lake Placid Dam covers ground next to the water; its rules will apply on that side. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lake Nirvana, 0.2 miles away. Treat Lake Placid as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
