Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with steady pressure of wind from the WNW and a rising glass. Start the search at The Bowl along points where shallow meets deep. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Within Hancock County, Maine, you have The Bowl. It stands 407 feet above sea level. At roughly 10 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Our Hancock County list holds plenty of bigger water. Bar Harbor sits 3.5 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Further out sit Tremont (9.7 miles) and Trenton (11 miles). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Hancock County include Atlantic salmon, brown trout, alewife, rainbow smelt and blueback herring. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On The Bowl the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Seasonal averages run from 20°F in January up to 67°F in July. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter locks it down, and early April brings it back. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early April and starts locking again about mid December. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The Bowl fishes to that pattern most years.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. The nearest car park we can see is half a mile out, so expect a walk with your gear. Facilities run to toilets half a mile from the water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Kief Pond is 0.4 miles off. Confirm access to The Bowl locally before you travel.
