Broken cloud drifting past the moon tonight, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with a settled glass. The productive water at Rand Lake will be around sheltered bays and points. The useful hours run the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Rand Lake is a Washington County water, Maine side. Everything around it is mixed forest. About 18 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Washington County. Saint Andrews at 6.6 miles is the nearest place to stop. The big place round here is Dartmouth, 179 miles distant. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Washington County cover alewife, Atlantic salmon and rainbow smelt. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Rand Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Averages move between 17°F in January and 66°F in July. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid April. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near early December. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. That is the shape of the year on Rand Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Goulding Lake, 1 mile away, makes the obvious fallback. For Rand Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
