Flat light and a covered sky today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW as pressure slides. On Mill Pond, work the quiet corner out of the wind first. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Kennebec County, Mill Pond is a Maine water. It stands 390 feet above sea level. The water measures roughly 4 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. It is a small entry by Kennebec County standards. Supplies mean a trip to Mount Vernon, 2.4 miles off. Chesterville follows at 5.2 miles, then Rome at 6.6 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Kennebec County records list brown trout, Atlantic salmon, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and black crappie among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Mill Pond the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 67°F in July and bottoms out near 16°F in January. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Look for the thaw near mid April; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate figures give an open season running mid April to early December. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Mill Pond follows the weather closely.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Flying Pond Farm Conservation Area runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Black Pond is 1 mile off. What applies at Mill Pond may have changed since it was mapped.
