Solid cloud cover today, with a proper ripple driven from the WNW with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Long Pond should come off the margins and any overhead cover. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Maine, Long Pond falls inside Hancock County. The sea is 7.8 miles distant. Around 157 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. The whole outline is near 2.9 miles, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Maine listings. Some 2.5 miles away sits Dedham, the nearest settlement. Sherbrooke sits 165 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Hancock County, recorded fish include Atlantic salmon, brown trout, alewife and rainbow smelt. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Long Pond the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Between January at about 18°F and July at about 68°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early April. Ice clears near early April and comes back about mid December in a typical year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Long Pond fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Thurston Pond, 2.1 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Long Pond is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
