Night
Little Tomah Lake is a Washington County water, in Maine. Pine and birch runs right down to the water. Roughly 146 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. With 3.7 miles or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. For supplies, McAdam is 22 miles out. St. Stephen is 29 miles away, with Calais at 30 miles. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Washington County include alewife, Atlantic salmon, rainbow smelt and brown trout. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Little Tomah Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
On the long-term average, July reads 67°F and January reads 14°F. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Break-up sits around mid April on average, with the water closing again about early December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Time your trip to Little Tomah Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Pickerel Pond at 1.7 miles is the nearest alternative. Confirm access to Little Tomah Lake locally before you travel.
