Showers crossing the water today, with a firm NNE blow and the barometer on the way down. Most of the action on Buker Pond should come off whatever cover the water offers. A middling, even day, steady rather than spectacular. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Buker Pond is one of the Kennebec County waters in Maine. It lies 171 feet above sea level. At about 78 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. It is low-lying compared with other Maine water we list. Monmouth at 5.6 miles is the nearest place to stop. Sabattus lies 7.1 miles off, Greene Village another 8.1 miles. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Kennebec County include brown trout, Atlantic salmon, largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Buker Pond responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Average temperature peaks around 69°F in July and bottoms out near 19°F in January. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early April. Averages suggest open water from about early April through to roughly mid December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Expect Buker Pond to follow that timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. The nearest mapped parking is 0.9 miles away, so the last stretch is on foot. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Sand Pond, 1.1 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Buker Pond carry more weight than any list.
