A closed sky with even light today, with an easy breeze from the SSW as pressure slides. The fish at Barker Pond are likely to sit near the deeper corner and inflow. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Quebec holds Barker Pond, in Estrie. It stands 657 metres above sea level. The water covers some 16 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 1.7 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. The town to know is Lac-Mégantic, 32 km out. Further out sit Cookshire (50 km) and Cookshire-Eaton (50 km). This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Open biodiversity records for Estrie list rainbow trout, white sucker and pumpkinseed. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Fish Barker Pond where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -13°C on the long-run figures. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Barker Pond runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Abbie Pond sits 3.2 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Barker Pond may have changed since it was mapped.
