A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with an easy breeze from the N and pressure easing off. The water to cover at Stump Lagoon is drains and drop-offs on the tide. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Ride the conditions while they last. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Orleans Parish end of Louisiana holds Stump Lagoon. The bank gives way to open low country. The closest town, Eden Isle, is 6.6 miles distant. The nearest city of size is New Orleans, 27 miles away. Other water within reach: Goose Pond the better part of 2.2 miles, Salt Bayou some 2.5 miles off, Foster Bayou the better part of 2.5 miles, Little Lagoon some 3 miles off and Lake Saint Catherine the better part of 3.5 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Salt or brackish and tidal: fish the flow, rest at slack, and watch the mud on a falling tide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Documented catches and surveys in the area cover blue catfish, flathead grey mullet and gizzard shad. Local agencies keep the authoritative list for each water. Read Stump Lagoon for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The year swings from about 51°F in January to roughly 82°F in July. Warmth runs the whole year, so timing is about the hour, not the month. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. It sets the rhythm of the year at Stump Lagoon.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Catfish want bait on the bottom: cut bait or worms, a simple running rig, and patience after dark. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Goose Pond at 2.2 miles is the nearest alternative. Rules at Stump Lagoon are worth checking on the day.
