A closed sky with even light today, with the surface near flat and the barometer on the way down. The fish at Oyster Lake are likely to sit near inflow corners and shaded margins. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Oyster Lake lies within the bounds of Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Beyond the shoreline you have open low country. With some 114 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. You are looking at roughly 3.2 miles of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Most waters listed here for Cameron Parish are larger. Hackberry is the closest place, 14 miles off. Further out sit Carlyss (26 miles) and Prien (28 miles). No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Salt or brackish and tidal: fish the flow, rest at slack, and watch the mud on a falling tide. Slack water is dead water on a place like this. Flats either side fish on the drop as bait is pushed off them. Biodiversity records within roughly six miles include flathead grey mullet, Alligator gar and gulf menhaden. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Work Oyster Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
July runs about 83°F on average, January about 51°F. The year runs unbroken and warm. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to be out. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. It sets the rhythm of the year at Oyster Lake. Late summer often means an early start or nothing at all.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Barramundi and estuary fish want hard-bodied lures and soft plastics worked around snags and drains. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Mud Lake is 3.7 miles off. For Oyster Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
