• Where to Fish on Lake Forbing

No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Records collected within a few miles name bluegill, black bullhead, bowfin and green sunfish. Check the state or provincial list before planning around one species. Lake Forbing gives up more to patience than to distance.

• Seasonal Patterns

Average temperature peaks around 82°F in July and bottoms out near 45°F in January. Warm months push fish deep; cool months bring them back. The first and last hours carry the summer; the middle is slow. The hot months push the fishing to dawn and dusk. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lake Forbing.

• Tackle & Baits

Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Parking within half a mile means no long carry with tackle. For the catfish, fish bottom baits into the deeper holes and let them sit. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Pruitts Lake is 4.2 miles distant.
