A crisp, open sky after dark, with a light chop building from the NW with a firming glass. Activity on Lake Iowa should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lake Iowa lies in Iowa County, Iowa. It lies 830 feet above sea level. Around 81 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 2.2 miles on foot. Williamsburg is the closest town at 8.7 miles. After that come North English at 9.9 miles and Marengo at 12 miles. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Inflow corners move water, and moving water gathers fish. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Records held for Iowa County cover channel catfish, bluegill, redear sunfish and black crappie. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lake Iowa the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect July to average close to 75°F, with January the cold end at about 19°F. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late March. Climate figures give an open season running late March to mid December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Lake Iowa fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. There is a launch about half a mile from the bank. You can park half a mile away and walk in from there. Lake Iowa Park covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Hannen Lake at 16 miles is the nearest alternative. Check the current arrangement for Lake Iowa.
