A still, cloudless night on the water, with an easy breeze from the NW and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Lake Halice should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. Expect the better fishing from morning through afternoon. Give the likely spots time before moving. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Polk County entry here is Lake Halice, in Iowa. Land around it is rolling bush. It covers about 9 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Polk County. Clive lies 1.3 miles from the water. Further out sit Urbandale (1.4 miles) and Windsor Heights (2.1 miles). It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Polk County names bluegill, green sunfish, channel catfish and common carp. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Anyone new to Lake Halice should walk it once before setting up.
Climate normals give 76°F for July and 20°F for January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid March. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid March in spring and again near mid December in autumn. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lake Halice runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Parking is mapped about half a mile from the bank. A jetty or pier is mapped about half a mile from here. Mapping records toilets within half a mile. Colby Woods runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Grays Lake is 6.2 miles off. Ask locally about Lake Halice if anything is unclear.
