Open sky and sharp air tonight, with a light chop building from the NW as pressure slides. Fish at Eagle Lake should hold close to points where shallow meets deep. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Eagle Lake in Emmet County, Iowa. This is lake country bush country. With some 207 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. A shoreline of some 2.6 miles keeps the choices simple. It is high ground by Iowa standards. Nearest town is Estherville, 6 miles off. The nearest city of size is Sioux Falls, 95 miles away. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Emmet County cover common carp, channel catfish, walleye, yellow perch and black bullhead. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Fish Eagle Lake to its features, not to its size.
The year swings from about 14°F in January to roughly 72°F in July. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early April. Average temperatures cross freezing around early April in spring and again near early December in autumn. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Anyone fishing Eagle Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The water borders Eagle Lake Wildlife Management Area, so expect the reserve rules to apply. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Swan Lake is 6.3 miles distant. Nothing here settles the position at Eagle Lake for certain.
