Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a gentle ripple from the NE and pressure easing off. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Syracuse Lake. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Kosciusko County entry here is Syracuse Lake, in Indiana. Height above sea level is 850 feet. About 411 acres, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Shoreline length is close to 3.5 miles, and each section fishes a little differently. Size puts it in the front rank of our Kosciusko County list. Syracuse sits 0.7 miles from here and is the nearest stop. For a city, South Bend is 32 miles off. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Kosciusko County records list bluegill, yellow perch and largemouth bass among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Syracuse Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Climate records put July near 72°F and January near 23°F. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late March. Ice usually gives way near late March, and forms again about late December. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Syracuse Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. A boat ramp sits half a mile away, so trailered boats can get on. Main Channel Marina sits half a mile off, with launching and moorings. There is a pier recorded roughly half a mile away. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Boner Lake sits 0.9 miles off and takes the overflow. Treat Syracuse Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
