Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with steady pressure of wind from the SW with pressure climbing. Expect most activity at Pine Lake around points where shallow meets deep. A long productive spell runs the day. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The LaPorte County end of Indiana holds Pine Lake. The setting is rolling bush. The water covers around 587 acres, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. With 6.4 miles or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. It is the biggest water on our LaPorte County list. The nearest place of any size is La Porte, 2.1 miles away. For a city, South Bend is 26 miles off. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in LaPorte County include shortnose cisco, alewife, rainbow smelt and rainbow trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Fish Pine Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Climate normals give 73°F for July and 23°F for January. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late March. Averages suggest open water from about late March through to roughly late December. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. It holds true on Pine Lake more years than not.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is a slipway on the shore, half a mile from the water we list. You can leave the car about half a mile from the water. A platform or pier sits within half a mile. Mapping records toilets within half a mile. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Stone Lake, 0.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. For Pine Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
